How Many Flights are there in Bhutan?

Bhutan has two major airlines flying in and out of the country and only one international airport, Paro International Airport.

The two major airlines have international flights from neighboring countries, including six international airports in India.

Druk Air is the ideal choice to book a ticket for India to Bhutan flight. Since its inauguration in 1983, Druk Air has received good reviews for its services and safety measures.

Drukair, the Royal Bhutan airline, operates a scheduled network throughout South Asia from its headquarters in Paro.

Drukair began service on February 11, 1983, from Paro, a scenic valley in western Bhutan, 65 kilometers from Thimphu, the capital.

Paro had a small airstrip at the time that served helicopter operations. Drukair began modestly with an 18-seat Dornier 228-200 that landed on January 14, 1983, with maroon-clad monks blessing the occasion and the jet. Kolkata was the first stop, followed by six South Asian countries, including Bangkok.

Another Dornier was added to satisfy the growing demand as more people from around the world took to the skies to enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges.

On November 21, 1988, Drukair upgraded its planes to the new BAe 146, and the first plane landed at Paro International Airport.

Drukair now flies to worldwide destinations with three A319s and one A320Neo and regional destinations with one ATR 42-600.

2. Bhutan Airlines – Tashi Air Private Limited

For domestic operations, Bhutan Airlines’ first aircraft, a Pilatus PC12 with an 8-passenger capacity, arrived on December 4, 2011.

On October 10, 2013, they launched their first international flight from Paro to Bangkok, followed by daily scheduled flights to Kolkata on December 16, 2013.

Bhutan Airlines now has two A319 aircraft with a total seating capacity of 126 passengers (12 Business Class seats and 114 Economy seats). These aircraft fly daily from Bangkok to Paro via Kolkata, India, and three times a week from Kathmandu to Delhi.
