Letter from the Prime Minister of Bhutan to those in quarantine
“My dear friends in quarantine,Today, the government decided to extend the quarantine period from initial 14 to 21 days. The decision was arrived at
purely to align with the COVID-19 response modes we are adopting by the day.”


April 28, 2020:
The first Bhutanese and the 3rd COVID-19 case in the country has recovered. The individual tested negative upon
completing the 2 weeks de-isolation period.
Therefore, five of seven have now recovered.


May 11, 2020
A 25 year old male and a 27 year old female have tested COVID-19 positive in COVID-19 PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test. Both of them have returned to Bhutan from the Middle East and both were in the quarantine facilities in Thimphu.
They are now moved to the isolation ward.
These two new positive cases make it the 10th and 11th COVID-19 positive cases of Bhutan.


May 13, 2020
Four new COVID-19 positive cases detected by PCR test.
The ones who tested positive are 2 males (33 and 32 year old) and 2 females (23 and 26 year old). All of them have returned to Bhutan from the Middle East and all are in the quarantine facilities in Thimphu. They are yet to be moved to the isolation ward.
These new positive cases take the total COVID-19 positive cases of Bhutan to 15.


May 14, 2020
Four more COVID-19 positive cases detected.
All 4 new cases are of females 31, 29, 24 and 27 year old. They came to Bhutan from the Middle East and are in the quarantine facilities in Thimphu. They are yet to be moved to the isolation facility.
This takes Bhutan’s total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 19.


May 14, 2020
Of the 99 samples tested today, 1 more tested positive, making it the 20th COVID-19 case of Bhutan.
The person who tested positive is a 30 year old male who recently returned from the Middle East and is in a quarantine facility in Thimphu. He is yet to be moved to the isolation facility.


May 15, 2020:
One more COVID-19 positive case detected. It brings the total number of COVID-19 positive cases of Bhutan to 21.
The new case is a 29 year old female coming from the middle east. She is in a quarantine facility in Thimphu and will be moved to the isolation later today.


May 22, 2020
Two more COVID-19 positive cases detected today. The positive cases are of two female – 30 years and 28 years old – coming from the Middle East. They are from the quarantine facilities in Thimphu and yet to be moved to the isolation ward.
This takes the total COVID-19 positive case of Bhutan to 23.


May 23, 2020
A 33 year old female who came from the Middle East. She is in a quarantine facilitiy in Thimphu and will be moved to the isolation today.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 24.


May 24, 2020
Three more Bhutanese tested positive of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases of Bhutan to 27.
The three new cases are of two males – 23 and 29 years old – and one female who is 29 years old. All of them came back to Bhutan from the Middle East. Of the three, two are in a quarantine facility in Thimphu and one in Paro. They will be moved to the isolation ward today.
