Plan now for September 7, 2021
Tour of the Dragon was created in 2009, by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugen Wangchuck. It does not fit into any of the categories defined by the International Cycling Union. It is an ultra marathon on challenging road conditions in the Himalayas. Definitely a scenic route of mountain ranges, blue pine forests and pristine streams, the race covers 268 km over 4 mountain passes at altitudes of 1200- 3340 meters, from Central to Western Bhutan, Bumthang to Thimphu.
In 2015 to celebrate THE 60TH Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King, The Dragons Fury was inaugurated. This is a 60 km race that starts in Messina, Wangdiphodrang, at an altitude of 1410 m, and travels uphill to Dochula at 3150 m for 38 km. From Dochula till Thimphu it is all downhill for 32 km. Thimphu rests at an altitude of 2330m.
