Measuring in at 51.5 m, the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, is one of the largest in the world. The Buddha Dodenma is located ontop of the hill in Kueselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the southern entrance of the Thimphu Valley.
The Buddha is made of Bronze and gilded in gold as are the 125,000 Buddhas located inside the statue. 100,000 buddhas measure 8” in height and 25,000 buddhas measure 12” in height. The throne that the Buddha is sitting on is actually a Meditation Hall.
A prophecy from the 8th century by Terton Pemalingpa (The Treasure Revealer of Bhutan) states that a Buddhist Statue will be built in the region to bring peace and happiness to the world.
